Thanks so much for all your concern and assistance. I think your site is wonderful; in fact, I’m extremely pleased that i found it. I’ve been educating myself with different styles of training. About 10 years ago i had a trainer come to my house and “train my dog,” but that didn’t work out too well. The yank n crank style of training really turned me off. Now with all this motivational training that has surfaced recently makes it a pleasure to teach (and learn) with dogs. I think it is amazing when a dog finally thinks through a problem and figures it out. that paradigm shift is really enjoyable for me and i vicariously experience my dog’s joy through his expresions.

I am impressed by your insight, especially about the ’stay’ command. I now understand why none of my previous dogs ever truly understood this command. My goal is to have an extremely well-trained dog who is a joy to be around. I have always had the greatest respect for service dogs.
