My Dog.
Here is a photo of my
beautiful, German Shepherd male that I adopted from German Shepherd Rescue.
Before I adopted him he was famous among the Rescue group for all the trouble
he caused along with his lack of training, making him difficult to adopt. So,
as a trainer, I knew I was up for the challenge and wanted to offer a home for
a "difficult" dog. He was about two when I adopted him. After just
a little training he has turned into an amazing dog.
He even became certified to be a Therapy Pet! We visited Nursing Homes together and he warmed the hearts of the residents. It was quite a site for them to watch a huge German Shepherd walk into the building! He was very gentle and enjoyed the long body massages of the residents.
He also became my assistant when I started volunteering for the German Shepherd Rescue group. I would go to the homes of potential adopters with him and interview the families and observe how they handled having a big dog like him in their homes.
One of his most valuable roles was to become my assistant as a "distraction" dog during my dog training. He became so well trained that he could just be off-leash at the park I was training at and provide a good distraction for the dogs I was training and I didn’t ever have to worry about him as he always stayed near.
What an incredible dog he is and to think he was once given up by a family that couldn't control him. It is amazing what a little training can do. I have a mission to offer you the techniques so that you may have this kind of rewarding relationship with your dog.
About Me:
I grew up on a farm in Minnesota so
have always grown up with dogs. Out on the farms you came across a lot of dogs
that had jobs to do. These farm dogs had a wonderful, fulfilling life! Many
of them were herding dogs that helped keep cows and sheep together and in
order. It was their instinct to work and be important. And the others, like
our family dogs were our assistants on the farm, following along during the
chores or behind the tractors helping out where needed. There were no fences
and no leashes.
I learned a lot about dogs because I was always around them. I’ve been told I have a special connection to them. When I am training a dog, we become connected and it shows. They are very in tune with me and me with them. This is part of having such a successful experience and one of the reasons my techniques work so well.
After I obtained my Bachelors Degree I joined the Peace Corps where I taught in the field to both state officials and children. I’ve always loved teaching and it comes naturally to me, which is invaluable in being a successful dog trainer. I’ve done a lot of traveling of the world before I finally settled down. I worked as a Veterinarian Technician before working at Guide Dogs for the Blind as an instructor and trainer. My job there was to train the dogs to Guide blind people and then teach the people how to use the dogs to guide them. Therefore I've had a lot of experience working with dogs and teaching people which is one reason my training methods are so good. People find me very friendly, encouraging, motivating, down-to-earth and a Very good teacher.
In 2000, I eventually
found my niche in my career with my own business doing private dog training.
It is very rewarding because I actually improve people’s lives by helping them
have happy, successful relationships with their dogs. My experience, along
with my techniques and skills have caused me to have only very satisfied, happy
customers. I hear the word "Wow", a lot on our first sessions
together, when they are witnessing what their dog is capable of so quickly. I
actually offered a guarantee to every client in my private practice; that if
they were not happy with any particular session they did not have to pay for
it. And, I can proudly say that I never had even one single unhappy client.
My amazing career path eventually led me to this website that I am very proud of. I have had so many people write to me that wish I could train their dog from other states and even other countries that it led me to the idea that I should create this site so that I can reach more people. This website has been a very positive experience and it has been fun to see how my methods have helped people from all over have success and the dog they always wanted!
I hope you’ll write and share your story with me! I look forward to hearing from you!
